For many, November ushers in feelings of gratitude and thankfulness as we anticipate the beloved rituals associated with Thanksgiving. Throughout the month, we’re surrounded with reminders to consider what we are most thankful for and to reflect on the blessings in our lives.
At Potentia, we’re grateful for you. Because of the trust you and other clients place in us, we have the privilege of coming to work each day to cultivate deeper relationships, seek new investment opportunities, and build wealth within families — with the end goal of helping our clients achieve financial health and freedom.
Potentia’s commitment to the community
As our company has grown, our opportunities to give back to the community have grown as well. From the day Kevin founded Potentia, he has endeavored to help our clients achieve their personal financial goals, while also working to make a positive impact within the broader community.
During this season of giving, we thought it appropriate to highlight a few organizations we’re privileged to partner with each year. And, if you’re looking for ways to give back to the community, we believe these are worthy of your time and investment.

Family Giving Tree:Spreading tangible joy | Habitat for Humanity:Homeownership empowers | Sacred Heart:Extending a helping hand |
Clients have joined with us in donating to the Family Giving Tree backpack and holiday gift drives. The school supplies provide for a child’s basic educational needs, and the hand-wrapped holiday gifts help each child feel valued and worthy of receiving a special gift. | Potentia team members get a hands-on, tangible opportunity to visit a Habitat for Humanity construction site to help build a home. Through our physical labor and monetary contributions, we’re able to help provide shelter for a local family in need. | Sacred Heart provides a helping hand to those facing adversity. To help foster a community where everyone has the resources needed to build a better life, Potentia supports Sacred Heart’s many food drives and contributes to their various outreach programs. |
Consider charitable giving as an investment strategy
Many clients choose to share their financial success with their communities through charitable giving. There are various ways to incorporate giving into your investment strategy, so let’s discuss some common giving methods.
- Make a qualified charitable donation (QCD) from your IRA: One effective way to align your financial goals with philanthropy is to make a QCD to a charitable organization. This strategy enables you to support causes you believe in, and the QCD counts toward your annual required minimum distribution (RMD) obligation.
- Establish a charitable trust or donor-advised fund: For those seeking a structured and tax-efficient way to manage substantial philanthropic contributions, consider establishing a charitable trust or donor-advised fund. This approach allows you to set aside funds specifically for charitable purposes, offering both flexibility and control over your giving strategy.
- Donate appreciated long-term securities: If you have large unrealized capital gains, donating appreciated securities directly to a charitable organization benefits the charity, while eliminating the capital gains tax you’d have to pay if you sold the security.
- Designate a charity as your beneficiary: Another way to weave philanthropy into your long-term financial planning is to designate charities as beneficiaries for certain accounts. This not only enables you to leave a legacy that extends beyond your lifetime, but can also serve as a tax strategy by reducing your gross estate.
Let’s partner together to help others
At Potentia, we believe that giving back is an integral part of building wealth. By embracing charitable giving as an investment strategy, you can align your financial success with meaningful social impact, leaving a legacy that transcends generations. Let us partner with you in building a wealth strategy for your family that can help others, strengthen our communities, and make a lasting difference.
